New CD Album Releases, 2-5-2008: KD Lang, They Might Be Giants, Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, Kenny G There are a couple of especially promising looking albums you might wish to consider this week. KD Lang has Watershed. This is her first album of her own new compositions since 2000. This is her first self-produced album, which is #3 currently at Amazon. Plus, give or take Sinead and Macy, KD Lang is the singingest bitch walking the Earth.
They Might Be Giants have Here Come the 123's on the Disney label. The album is a broadly educational children's album with a lot of math related songs like "The Secret Life of Six." There are songs for zero, 1, 2, 3 including two 7 songs and two 9 songs. Note that there's an Amazon exclusive version with a couple extra tracks and a whole DVD with 24 videos. They're coming off making one of the best records of last year, and they've done very well in the past with children's themed albums artistically. This is the #12 album currently at Amazon.
Used to, I couldn't stand to listen to Kenny G and his mellow wallpaper jazz music. Nowadays, I can tolerate a bit of it as it is grounds for me to ponder his appearance in South Park to lead the children in playing "The Brown Noise." Still, a lot of people dig Kenny G. This week he has Rhythm and Romance, which is apparently something of a Latin dance album.
