The main enchilada this week is Intriguer from Crowded House. This is their follow-up to the 2007 reunion album Time on Earth. Haven’t heard it yet, but I’m always hip to give a listen to new music from the author of “Don’t Dream It’s Over.”
Symphonicities is mostly Sting doing symphonic re-arrangements of classic Police and Sting songs. I don’t know if these versions are necessarily superior to the originals, but these songs are strong enough to bear some changes in orchestration. The best point is simply getting a somewhat different take on old favorites. “Roxanne” for one works nicely as a more classically orchestrated song rather than the throbbing rock song we remember.
