COMMENTS: After a bitter cold winter of sadness and dispair, the sunlight of loves comes breaking through the clouds.  You can feel the heat on your skin, soaking through to your old tired bones.  Oh, yeah, this is the stuff.

This is a song of deliverance.  There is great joy in the rising strains of the chorus, but the transcendent bliss comes from seeing the change.  He doesn't present himself as a happy-go-lucky guy having another great day in the park.  Rather this love comes as deliverance from a great depression.  You can hear the lingering strains of it giving way in lines like "it seems like years since it's been here."

Harrison never wrote a melody more tender than this.  It is not fragile; no, you can feel his heart gaining strength.  Rather tender here means that he sings with an open heart, which Harrison often does not.  Think "Piggies."  Another way at getting at the openess of heart would be to describe it as pastoral.  It would be real easy, very natural to imagine the song being played out in the open air, in a peaceful meadow.

George Harrison typically has not gotten the full credit he deserves as a creative guitar player. Partly this aspect gets lost among the collective amazing feats of Beatledom.  Partly the attention of guitar players gets diverted by the flashy overamped straining of supposed guitar gods like Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck.  I defy them, though, to give a more beautiful and expressive performance than this.  Through his sprightly guitar lines you can feel the spring flowers breaking joyfully through the soil.
