True Christians shouldn't support Christ's enemies
Jesus said, "He that hateth me hateth my Father also" - (John 15:23).
The topic of today's column is the Jewish problem, which has come to the front of our national political scene again as a result of the Iran arms sale controversy. In this scandal, Israel acted as the middleman between the United States and the other groups involved. And our relationship with the Israeli government has often dominated political debate here since before that government was formed.
God chose the children of Israel to be his special people. They were given not just the responsibility but also the rewards of being the ancestors of Jesus Christ. God certainly asked more of his special race of people than of others, but he gave them great rewards.
God picked out for the Jews the best land promised it to them, even though it was already populated. God helped them destroy many nations so they could have the land. The Jews clung unto God, and they were blessed; God made Israel a might nation.
Then the Jews rejected - killed - Christ and have not been God's children since. "Jesus said unto them, 'If God wee your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God...Ye are of your father, the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do'" - (John 8:42-44). The Jews rejected God, so he left them to their fate. "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate" - (Luke 13:34:35).
And God won't necessarily be sparing each new generation anew. "Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, no possess the land" - (Isaiah 14:21).
Jesus said, "He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which has sent him" (John 5:23). Also, Jesus said, in Luke 11:23, "He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth." The logical consequences are simple, clear and undeniable. The Jews don't honor Jesus, or God the father. They choose not to be with Christ, therefore they are against Him and have been left to fend for themselves.
Some 2,000-plus years after their ancestors entered the Promised Land, some of the scattered children of Israel, still not having accepted Christ, faced a terrible enemy in Germany. Having rejected God, though, the Jews were in a different position than during many earlier conflicts. This time, the Jews were not the master race.
What Hitler did to the Jews was terrible, but we can learn a lesson from it. As Jimmy Swaggart has pointed out before me, the Holocaust shows what can happen to you if you reject Christ. I think the message is clear.
One is not condemned to be forever parted from God's sheepfold because they are born Jewish by race. Christ allows anyone to come unto him and find forgiveness and have their name written in the Book of Life. The Jews at Dacchau could have accepted Christ in the Nazi gas chambers to start spending eternity with God that very day. The leaders of Israel could accept Christ and lead the children of Israel back into God's fold. Or people born Jewish could renounce the government of Israel and accept Christ.
Until the Jews accept Christ, thee is nothing to be done for the Jewish nation. "Jesus saith unto him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me'" - (John 14:6). It is not for us to save Israel.
But after Christ left the house of Israel desolate, His supposed followers insisted on helping build it back into a nation. The American government helped Jewish leaders seize a site for the new nation of Israel. And our government has supported it with montey and weapons for 40 years. Many presidents have been guilty of aiding Christ's enemies in Jerusalem. Maybe this is why so many consecutive administrations now have ended in death, disgrace or scandal.
The Iran arms sale scandal is, quite frankly, no more punishment than the Reagan administration deserves for giving aid and comfort to people who are against our Savior.
The Jews rejected our Lord 2,000 years ago, so it is high time we reject them now. As "one nation, under God," it would be appropriate for us to work against those who are against our Lord. They are against Him, so I am against them. Simple as that.
Let's be liberal, though, with regard to the domestic Jewish situation - liberal with the limits of our loyalty to Christ. I see no reason why a person born Jewish should be denied suffrage, so long as they have accepted Christ.
But practicing Jews are enemies of Christ and certainly should not expect support from Christians, neither domestically nor abroad.
Let us not be hypocrites, saying one thing and doing another. Let us not say that we are followers of Christ, even while we support his enemies.
