Valerie Plame Should Be Fired
This whole Plame leak deal seems to be ass backwards in the public ramifications. Career CIA employee Valerie Plame sets her husband Joe Wilson up on a political hack trip to screw with the White House. He comes back telling lies, and writing an op-ed piece in the New York Times. Then somehow the Bush administration are the bad guys, facing indictments and eleven kinds of condemnation for telling THE TRUTH.
In fact, SHE is the goat here. This was totally inappropriate and unprofessional behavior. The CIA work for the president. They are not an independent branch of government jockeying for their preferred policy positions. Theoretically, that is.
Now, it would be one thing if in the normal course of her work she discovered some huge, horrible coverup that just had to be exposed. She might defy normal propriety to quit her job and hold a press conference.
But there was nothing like that here. Indeed, some of what hubby came back with in fact supported President Bush's contention that Iraq was trying to buy Nigerian uranium. But he came back publicly saying the opposite of that.
Yes, Scooter Libby is an IDIOT for (apparently) lying about where he learned what and who he told it to. He's asked to get spanked. Sorry about his bad luck.
But note that Valerie Plame abused her position to help her husband LIE and grab some publicity in the New York Frickin' Times. Libby and the White House are in trouble for telling the TRUTH about them. Her frickin' HUSBAND is writing a signed editorial in the paper- and then idiots are hollering that Bush's people have publicly exposed her. What?!
Valerie Plame conspired with her husband to make this completely inappropriate effort to use her professional status for political ends. She should be fired immediately.
Why is she still on our payroll?
