I wouldn't want to ask people to just give me money cause they like my website, but do please take a quick look at Barger's Boutique. You might find yourself a little something-something for 2 or 3 bucks that you just can't resist! Any of the round images you find around MoreThings will get you to an Amazon page to buy my stuff and help ol' Al keep the lights on.
Links
To explicitly state the obvious, these external links go to interesting and provocative websites, but they speak for themselves. I don't necessarily agree with anything they say - especially that no-goodnik Richard Marcus.

Great Movie Musicals The American Film Institute just published their list of the great all time movie musicals. I didn't like it so much, so Al's Film Institute has an answer list.
Among other things, it was particularly egregious that they didn't include the 1943 Stormy Weather, with Lena Horne, Cab Calloway, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, and my guy Fats Waller. Total awesomeness from one end to the other, climaxing with Fayard and Harold Nicholas in the hottest dance sequence in the history of film, or something like that.
It was just plain silly that they didn't include Oklahoma! That's the gold standard of movie musicals. It was the Sgt Pepper of the era, the groundbreaking achievement that set the standards for others to aspire to. Plus, it had Jud Fry wailing along in self-pity, imagining the girls what would be weeping over his carcass if'n he was to hang himself down in the smokehouse. Poor Jud!
On top of which, you really can't have an accounting of the great musicals without the Blues Brothers. Besides the wonderfully wanton and gratuitous destruction of millions of dollars worth of cars and shopping malls, this had Aretha's definitive performance of "Think" and a groovy blast of Brother Ray.
Anyway, I've got the whole AFI list, and my own list with extensive notes and pictures. Dig it. THE GREAT MOVIE MUSICALS
