In the season five episode "Mr. Monk and the Class Reunion," Adrian goes back to the University of California at Berkeley for the class of 1981 reunion and to visit the library stack where he first laid eyes on Trudy Anne Ellison, which event he can remember like it was yesterday. "It WAS yesterday" he explains to Natalie. Adrian is working in the library where they are doing major re-organization when Trudy comes in looking for volume two of a biography of Alexander Pope. She immediately starts to grasp some of the implications of Adrian remembering where he saw this one obscure volume among ten thousand books stacked on the floor last week, and being able to quote Pope - before casually wandering off across campus with some Lothario who comes swooping in without any thought from Trudy that Adrian was even interested. His quiet distress at that moment is tempered now for knowing how it came out.
